Green Building

Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles has partnered with the Home Builders Association of St. Louis and Laclede Gas Co. to build and certify all newly built Habitat homes eco-friendly. In 2005, Laclede Gas partnered with the Home Builders Association of Greater St. Louis to bring the Green Building Initiative (GBI) to the region. The program, based on the National Association of Home Builder's (NAHB) Model Green Home Building Guidelines, is designed to offer local builders information on products and building practices to help meet buyers' demands for enhanced environmental quality. As part of the partnership, Laclede Gas developed an inspection and verification process to ensure homes constructed as part of the GBI program adhere to the NAHB guidelines.Through the NAHB Green Building Initiative, each home will be built with sustainable requirements including the following areas:

  • Lot design, preparation, and development
  • Resource efficiency
  • Energy efficiency
  • Water efficiency
  • Indoor environmental quality, operation, maintenance and owner education
  • Global impact
